Clannad: Collection 1 Review

I'm gonna start my reviews with one of my favorite series, Clannad. this show revolves around the school life of Tomoya Okazaki, a smart mouthed delinquent who loves to play tricks, and Nagisa Furukawa, a sickly girl who is currently repeating her senior year of high school. In the story, Nagisa and Tomoya are trying to revive the disbanded drama club, but for most of the episodes, they're helping their friends.

The story starts with the first few episodes introducing the many characters in the story. then it moves on to the Fuko arc, and ends with a cliffhanger in the middle of the Kotomi ark. The story in this series was, in my opinion, very well written. it mixes both dramatic scenes with very funny comedy scenes. the only problem is that some scenes feel rushed.

the artwork in this anime is very well done. they use bright, colorful artwork and put many details in the background. they also give "living" background characters (react properly to what is happening individual movement, etc.). I also like the clean transitions between scenes.

the translations for the series were okay for the most part. there were some grammar/spelling mistakes. the thing that really annoyed me were the translator notes. they took over most of the screen when displayed, and some were not needed. another thing that annoyed me was that they had the full (completely silent)translated credits at the end of each episodes. i wouldn't have minded if they added them at the end of the last episode of each DVD.

Overall, this is a very good, heartwarming story that i recommend watching.

  3. I'm consistently amazed how the Japanese manage to make such a huge volume of anime, I don't even know where to start.
